Our Creative Team
Joel Malizia/ProducerJoel Malizia spent most of his early adulthood working as a professional musician and carpenter. As his family grew, he leaned more on his carpentry skills than on his musical chops, and he took a job at Home Shopping Network building sets for live television studios.
While at HSN, Joel was able to work in several different departments (lighting, set styling, production, etc.), further educating him on the many facets of the production process. During these years, Joel independently created and shot short films which experienced success at national and international film festivals. With several years of live television production under his belt, Joel cofounded full service video production company, Pilot Moon Films. Pilot Moon specializes in music festivals, music videos, television commercials and branding videos. |
Dave Allison/DirectorDavid Allison is a veteran filmmaker and graphic designer who has worked on numerous projects including feature films and motion design work for the World Cup and the Super Bowl.
David has been in video and film production since 2000. He is a co-founder of Pilot Moon Films, a production company specializing in music videos, commercials, and documentary films. He is also co-founder of Et Cultura, an annual multi-media festival in St. Petersburg, Florida. David studied film and television at the University of North Texas before he went on to pursue film editing studies in Los Angeles. |
John Demaio/Director of PhotographyJohn DeMaio has been working as a film and television professional since 1997. He began producing television content early in his career, working on programming for FOX. He quickly decided that storytelling was his passion.
In addition to working as a Director of Photographer and Post Producer, John helped to develop the television series Travel Thru History, which was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in its first season. In 2014 John received his first Daytime Emmy win for his work with the Walt Disney Company. His work as Director of Photography and Producer for the television special, Disney’s Broadway Hits at Royal Albert Hall, earned John another two Emmy nominations in 2018. John is excited to be a member of the team for the Dancehall Tapes, and to be working alongside his long-time friend of over thirty years, Joel Malizia. “Joel and Dave’s passion for music and storytelling is a perfect match for me and my style of creating content...and they’re pretty cool to hang out with too. Sometimes that’s all it takes to make TV magic happen.” |

John Kelly/Mixing EngineerJohn Kelly is a singer songwriter from Teaneck, New Jersey (by way of Nashville) living in St. Petersburg, FL. John started out playing on Bleaker Street in NYC when he was 18 years old. Influenced at a young age by guitarists such as Mark Knopfler, Dickie Betts, Toy Caldwell, Eric Clapton and songwriters such as Jim Croce, Neil Diamond, John Denver and Harry Chapin, John has a wide range of musical styles - from what he calls "Chicken Pickin'" on audience favorites like Lucky Day, I got a feelin', and Country Livin' to "Life Moment Pieces" like Still, Jackson, Take Your Time and Welcome Home.
Luckily John doesn't have to stray far from his love of music in his everyday work. John owns and operates HIDEAWAY RECORDING STUDIO and The Hideaway Cafe on Central Avenue in Downtown Saint Petersburg, Florida, where he continues to "craft the song" and "master the sound" for countless other local and nationally touring artists. Credited with giving original music a stage in this art-loving city, John continues to be an ambassador for musicians to be seen as the artists and entrepreneurs that they are and is frequently the driving force pushing them onto larger and larger stages as they build their story and their following. |
